Fortnite Creative Content Creators Are Reportedly Getting A New Economy System
According to Fortnite leakers, Epic Games is currently working on an economy update for the upcoming Fortnite Creative 2.0 patch that will allow in-game content creators to make money in a different way as Support-A-Creator.
This new economy system, dubbed Creator Economy 2.0, will apparently feature a payout based on the number of engagements based on the islands the creators release. Spotted in a leaked image from a developer community page, the new feature’s description reads: “Introducing engagement payouts, a new way for island builders to earn based on what players enjoy.” Prior to this development, content creators in Fortnite Creative could only earn money when other players used their codes to purchase skins and cosmetics from the item shop via the Support-A-Creator tab. However, this new addition could likely encourage more fans to spend time with Fortnite Creative to deliver new experiences.
It remains to be seen how far Epic Games can get with this new economic system as we don’t yet know the details, including metrics for how much developers could earn for a given level of player engagement. Roblox is currently a fairly popular platform with a similar economic system for its game creators and developers, but it’s too early to consider Fortnite Creative 2.0 as a competitor for Roblox.
Epic Games is currently preparing to release a Fortnite proprietary Unreal Editor that will allow players to design and develop new games and experiences and publish them directly into Fortnite. According to Epic Games, the upcoming Unreal Editor, a PC application, will work side by side with Fortnite Creative Tools, allowing players on consoles and PC to develop their projects while benefiting from the cutting-edge technologies of Unreal Engine 5, such as modeling, VFX, sequencer and control rig.
Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 2 arrived earlier this month. Creative 2.0 was also supposed to be released at the same time, but was delayed by a few weeks by Epic Games. Now the Unreal Editor is scheduled to be released on March 22nd. It is expected that the new economic system will also receive a full announcement along with the launch of Creative 2.0.
