New updates will be added at the end of this story…….
Original story (published March 22, 2022) follows:
In recent years, battle royale shooters have taken the video game industry by storm. While some prefer realistic gunplay and physics, others enjoy fast-paced and complex mechanic titles like Fortnite has to offer.
It is one of the most popular games despite being released in 2017, with more than 350 million registered players (as of 2021).
While the developers are rolling out new content every now and then, several players complained that they were experiencing FPS drops due to DirectX 12 after the Chapter 3 Season 2 update.
And if you thought that was enough, current reports (1,2,3,4,5) from Fortnite players indicate the game is crashing on PC after the Chapter 3 Season 2 update.
The game seems to crash randomly on desktop, making it impossible for players to complete a game. General troubleshooting steps like reinstalling the game and restarting the system also don’t help.
You can see the error message some players are receiving in the image below.

Below are some reports from Fortnite players who are tired of the game crashing on PC.
@FortniteGame can’t even play the game anymore, as soon as I place builds in creative my game just crashes. I checked my game, switched all DirectX modes, restarted my PC, updated drivers. Literally everything and still crashes. Please help!

Since the season ended, the game is running poorly and keeps crashing. It’s literally unplayable right now, especially when the game suddenly crashes on desktop in the middle of games. Idk what the heck is going on, definitely wasn’t happening last season, the game didn’t even crash at all last season, so why is it crashing every time now?

Many are wondering if and when the issue will be fixed so they can finally play the game.
As it turns out, Fortnite developers Epic Games have commented on the matter, saying that they are aware of the stability issues that are causing crashing issues in the PC version of the game.
While they said a fix is already underway, there is no ETA as to when it will be rolled out.
We are aware of stability issues with players on PC causing crashes. We are currently working on a fix and will post an update here when this is resolved.

We hope that Fortnite developers will soon release a patch that fixes the issue so players can enjoy the game again. If and when that is the case we will update this space to reflect the same so make sure to stay tuned.
In the meantime, be sure to check out our dedicated Fortnite bug tracker to see similar issues that have been reported by players.
Update 1 (March 26)
5:48 p.m. (ACTUAL): While Fortnite has support on Twitter Approved that the stability issue is fixed for PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch players, there is no mention of fixing the issue on PC.
Update 2 (September 19)
10:08 am (ACTUAL): Many Fortnite players are reporting now (12, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9) that the game crashes for them after Chapter 3 Season 4 update.
Luckily, Fortnite support has caught this issue for PC and PC Nintendo switch player and said they are currently working to fix it. Also, they have provided a workaround for PC gamers who should have this problem temporarily.
We are aware of an issue resulting in players freezing on PC. As a workaround, please disable third-party overlay software to avoid these freezes. We will provide more information as soon as we have it. (source)
