Former Arizona Cardinals endorse Dan Quinn

Dan Quinn received endorsement from former Arizona Cardinals great Larry Fitzgerald to become the franchise’s next head coach, according to AZ Central.

When Larry Fitzgerald speaks, listen. He’s no different than Joe Namath (former New York Jets quarterback) or former Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Steve Largent if you want a closer comparison.

Of course, we already knew there would be some opinions about Quinn when the NFL Universe found out the Redbirds were planning to invite the Cowboys’ defensive coordinator over for a second interview. Fitzgerald has apparently been a big fan of Quinn for some time, as he said the following to esports reporter Jim Gray during the 2022 season:

“In my opinion he would be number 1. No question. What he did. Obviously his experience, he did really well in Atlanta and if he played football a little bit more he would have won a Super Bowl championship. via AZ headquarters.

Should the Arizona Cardinals listen to Larry Fitzgerald?

Thanks to the way Quinn turned around the Dallas Cowboys’ defense, we knew he would be a hot coaching candidate in the offseason. He would have topped Fitzgerald’s list, and he also became a permanent fixture on my own list once word got out that the Cardinals were interested.

Fitzgerald is right about the fact that Quinn has ample experience as an NFL head coach and a track record, albeit by a very small margin. Quinn was also the coach during Matt Ryan’s 2016 MVP season, a year the Falcons went to the Super Bowl but infamously collapsed.

I also love the third point Fitzgerald made. Well, in Arizona he might actually be running the ball more thanks to the double threat quarterback he has in Kyler Murray, or will have if Murray returns from his ACL injury. This is in stark contrast to Matt Ryan, who never had Murray’s ability to climb.

Quinn would also have a bruise in James Conner, and he’d likely be looking for another back to complement Arizona’s RB1. Would running on the ball have equated more to a Lombardi in Atlanta? We’ll never know. But we know that even in a pass-friendly league, running the ball still effectively runs out the clock and thus wins games.

In short, if owner Michael Bidwill and general manager Monti Ossenfort were smart, they would at least heed Fitzgerald’s words. We’ll see what happens in the coming weeks. days maybe.
