Today’s Xbox Developer Direct revealed release dates and gameplay for Minecraft Legends, Redfall, Forza Motorsport and more.
Xbox Game Studios hosted a Developer Direct today to showcase upcoming games for Xbox consoles, PC and Xbox Game Pass. The stream revealed release dates and new gameplay for Minecraft Legends, Redfall and Forza Motorsport – but it also revealed a brand new game from the creators of The Evil Within called Hi-Fi Rush. Here’s everything we saw at Developer Direct:
Minecraft Legends (April 18)
The latest Minecraft spin-off is shaping up to be quite a fun survival game. This new game comes with all the familiar block visuals and mobs of Minecraft but mixes it all up with action strategy gameplay. The game features a narrative co-op mode in which players must work together with Minecraft mobs to fight a Piglin invasion from the Nether, as well as a PvP mode in which they must attack other players’ bases and defend their own. The second mode involves building your defenses and planning attacks in a StarCraft-like fashion.
Forza Motorsport (2023)
The Forza franchise has consistently produced some of the most visually stunning racing games out there, and Forza Motorsport is no different. The new gameplay shown during this Developer Direct highlighted all of the graphical detail contained within Motorsport, from environments with “ten times more detail” than previous entries to fully dynamic times of day and weather conditions. Developer Turn 10 claims players can race on ray-traced tracks at 60 fps, which would be a pretty amazing technical feat for a game that looks so good on consoles.
Hi-Fi Rush (available now)
If Sunset Overdrive was a rhythm action game, it would be Hi-Fi Rush. This colorful single-player game comes from Tango Gameworks, creators of the horror game franchise The Evil Within – quite a shift in tone for the studio. You play as Chai, a wannabe rock star who has a music player in his chest and a cyborg cat on his shoulder. With the help of a ragtag band of allies, Chai must fight his way through rhythmic combat using music from rock bands like Nine Inch Nails and the Black Keys.
This game is also available today! It is also available in Xbox Game Pass.
Redfall (May 2nd)
Arkane Studios has built a solid reputation after delivering addictive first-person shooters like Prey, Dishonored, and Deathloop. However, the developer claims that its new open-world vampire game, Redfall, is its biggest game yet, which is exciting in itself. This is a four-player, Borderlands-like co-op game in which players fight to rid the town of Redfall from an ongoing vampiric invasion. Arkane plays to its strengths here, offering players a rich world to explore, a variety of abilities to use, and the freedom to choose how they want to achieve their goals. The game can also be played solo if you’d rather not play multiplayer.
The Elder Scrolls Online: Necrom (June)
The Elder Scrolls Online is getting another new expansion this year, introducing a brand new class called the Arcanist and a new peninsula in Morrowind to explore. Also available today is a new free trial for ESO Plus, which includes all previous expansions (except High Isle) and DLC for all base game owners. This includes anyone who picks up the game on Game Pass.
