Davina McCall’s dating show Language of Love was canceled after just one series

DATING shows often get a bad rap as a quick route to stardom rather than a genuine quest for that one.

Channel 4’s Language Of Love brought a little class to the proceedings, not least because it was hosted by television pro Davina McCall.

It was an interesting concept that British and Spanish singles followed as they tried to prove that love could overcome the language barrier.

And the show felt like a full-circle moment for Davina, who first made it big in the late ’90s with C4’s dating show Streetmate.

But alas, after just one series, the program was quietly shut down after just 200,000 viewers watched the finale in February this year.

“Lost Steam”

A source revealed: “Channel 4 thought ‘Language Of Love’ had all the ingredients to be a hit, especially with Davina at the helm.

“Unfortunately, the premise didn’t seem to hit a nerve with the audience. It failed to generate much engagement on social media and then lost momentum as the series progressed.

“So there are currently no plans for another series.

“But it was a fun experiment and the central format is quite repeatable so perhaps Language Of Love will see another day.”

Whatever happens, Davina’s diary is already packed and viewers will soon see her on ITV’s The Masked Dancer, then The Masked Singer and her show Long Lost Family has received rave reviews.

EKIN SU CULCULOGLU may be a “liar” but the truth is she looks stunning in red.

The Love Island winner wowed on ITV’s Lorraine this week.

Speaking to Christine Lampard – who was standing in for Lorraine Kelly – Ekin Su opened up about a secret panic attack she suffered on the ITV2 dating show – not airing – because she was so worried she was getting dirty.

The Turkish beauty, who also confirmed she’s moving in with fellow winner and partner Davide Sanclimenti, admitted: “At one point the paramedics came to Casa (Amor).

“I had a mini panic attack because I was worried about what Davide was doing … They said to me, ‘It’s fine’.”

Ekin and Davide are the first couple from the 2022 series to move in together.

CORONATION Street’s Vicky Entwistle is planning a scrapbook about her time on the ITV soap opera.

The actress, who played cobblestone legend Janice Battersby for 14 years, is set to reveal the show’s secrets – including the reasons behind her acrimonious exit in 2010.

To help with the book, Vicky even reached out to former co-stars Gaynor Faye and Denise Welch on social media. She tweeted, “@RealDeniseWelch @MsGfaye Any moment I missed is greatly appreciated.”

Last week, fans flocked to support Vicky after she announced she was leaving showbiz due to a lack of respect from industry bosses following a failed audition.
