Check your iPhone today! Apple releases a free upgrade that you must install

If you have an iPhone in your pocket, you should go to the settings menu and download the latest update from Apple. Released overnight, iOS 16.3 brings some new features to the iPhone, along with fixing an irritating display bug and getting rid of a bunch of glitches that could compromise device security.

To download this update to your device, just go to settings then tap the menu General and Software update. Here you should see the option to download and install iOS 16.3. It’s worth noting that the latest software patch is over 700MB. So it’s best to make sure you’re connected to a landline broadband connection unless you have unlimited mobile data.

As long as you’re running iOS 16, this latest version should be available to install today, and here are all the new features.


There is a major new security update in iOS 16.3 where Apple introduces a feature called Security Keys for Apple ID. This essentially allows users to strengthen their accounts by requiring a physical security key as part of the two-factor authentication sign-in process on new devices. For those who want stronger security, it replaces the current method of sending a text to verify the user with an actual piece of hardware needed before things can be accessed.

In iOS 16.3, emergency SOS calls now require holding and then releasing the side button with the volume up or down button to prevent accidental emergency calls
