One of the many activities that players can engage in in Pokemon GO is the frequent raid battles that the game has to offer. As this is one of the most popular forms of play the mobile title has to offer, trainers everywhere look forward to each new rotation of raid bosses coming to the mobile title.
Niantic recently released the latest rotation of Raid Bosses, with the current edition featuring the Mega Evolution for one of the original Fossil Pokemon, Aerodactyl. While many trainers will take up this challenge to add such a creature to their collection, others may be after a rarer prize.
The concept of Shiny Pokemon in Pokemon GO is one of the most compelling for many trainers due to its rarity. Having creatures with different color palettes has been a requested trait by many players since Shiny Pokemon was introduced to the franchise in the second generation.
However, Niantic is notoriously picky when it comes to which Shiny Pokemon they spawn in Pokemon GO. So what about Aerodactyl? Can players find this prehistoric powerhouse in its altered form?
Tips on how to find Shiny Aerodactyl in Pokemon GO
Niantic’s official Pokemon GO website has confirmed that players can find a Shiny Aerodactyl in-game by fighting its Mega Evolution in Raid Battles. However, this can be a very expensive and time-consuming method. Therefore, many players may choose a cheaper way to find this rare form.
The only benefit of challenging Mega Aerodactyl in a Raid Battle for its Shiny Form is that this method is much more consistent than chasing down a wild Aerodactyl. Since most fossil Pokemon can only spawn under rare circumstances, unless the player can find a nest, it’s extremely unlikely to be lucky enough to find an abundance of them in the wild to hunt down shiny forms.
Trainers who choose the Raid battle method will need to stock up on Raid Passes. These can easily be purchased from Pokemon GO’s in-game shop for 100 Pokecoins each. While buying the first few Raid Passes isn’t a big deal, the price can add up if players aren’t very lucky.
As for optimal counters, players should be careful to use their own Mega Evolutions. Mega Blastoise and Mega Slowbro are two of the best to consider due to their high defense and type advantage. As for other counters, Metagross and Xurkitree are also amazing choices thanks to their strong attack stats.
For players who want to take a more traditional approach to their shiny hunt in Pokemon GO and look for one in the wild, it may take a little more planning. Since Aerodactyl is a flying and rock type, it has the highest chance of spawning in areas exposed to partly cloudy and windy weather conditions thanks to the game’s weather boost mechanic.
Players should also stock up on Incense and Decoy Modules if they intend to hunt for a Shiny Aerodactyl through wild encounters. These items passively increase an area’s overall spawn rate and make finding Shiny Pokemon take much less time overall.
