Known for his fitness, MS Dhoni is considered a brilliant athlete even at 41 years old. The veteran wicket-keeper-batsman will lead Chennai Super Kings in this year’s Indian Premier League (IPL) and videos of him training at Chepauk Stadium have already gone viral on social media. Former Indian cricketer Robin Uthappa, who spent a lot of time with Dhoni in both the Indian and CSK dressing rooms, revealed Dhoni’s unique food choices along with some fun anecdotes about his other team-mates. Uthappa said in a recent interaction that Dhoni used to order butter chicken but would only have the sauce to keep his fitness up to scratch.
“We used to eat together all the time. We had a group: Suresh Raina, Irfan Pathan, RP Singh, Piyush Chawla, Munaf (Patel), MS and myself. We would order Dal Makhni, Butter Chicken, Jeera Aloo, Gobi and Rotis. But MS is a very rigid person when it comes to food. He would eat butter chicken, but without the chicken, just with gravy! If he ate chicken, he wouldn’t eat the rotis. He’s pretty weird when it comes to food,” he said on an episode of My Time With Heroes on JioCinema.
Dhoni is also known for making his teammates comfortable and Uthappa told a similar story against the ex-India skipper when he only wanted to be called ‘Mahi’ and not ‘Mahi Bhai’.
“In the first season, I saw everyone in the squad call him Mahi Bhai. I went up to him and asked if I should also call him Mahi Bhai. He dismissed it as, call me whatever you want, it makes no difference. Please just call me Mahi,” Uthappa said in the episode titled “My Time with Dhoni.”
