Best Pokemon to catch in Pokemon GO

The starters: Squirtle, Bulbasaur & Charmander

You might not think the launchers are worth catching, but finding these rare little creatures in Pokemon GO and catching them is the only way to level up your own launcher. You want that charizard, don’t you?

blastoise

While exceedingly rare, you can actually encounter and capture Squirtle’s final form in the wild. Needless to say, this living water tank is no hoax.

Venusaur

Just like Blastoise, you may encounter Venusaur in the wild. It’s a rare encounter and will almost always be in areas with lots of trees, but if you can find this beast in Pokemon GO, make sure you catch it.

Charizard

Charizard is a bit more random than the other starters’ recent evolutions when it comes to encountering it in the wild, as it doesn’t have a specific water or grass preference like the other two. It’s still rare, though, and the mix of fire and flight will really help you later on.

Pikachu

Pikachu isn’t particularly rare, and there’s a way to get this loveable Pokémon at the very beginning, but it’s still one of the best Pokémon you’ll catch in Pokémon GO. Electric is strong against flying (damn all those pidgeys) and the candy lets you charge your own Pikachu if you choose it as a starter.

Scyther

Scyther is fast and powerful. This Bug/Flying type has exceptional HP and can be boosted to some pretty high CPs. Plus it’s pretty damn cool to look at.

Relaxo

Relaxo is huge and strong. It’s fairly rare in Pokemon GO, but you don’t really need to go to any specific type of geography to find one, meaning even if your options are limited you have a chance.

treat

Lickitung is another rare Pokemon that can be found in most locations. Its goofy looks and powerful attacks make it a must-have for your collection.

lapras

You’ll often see a Lapras guarding an arena because they’re bloody powerful, if not a little rare. Look around bodies of water for a better chance at one of Pokemon GO’s sleeker Water-type Pokémon.

Hitmonchan

Hitmonchan is a fighting type, meaning it has what it takes to beat the competition. You don’t have to look anywhere specifically for this one, although it’s not usually found near water and is fairly rare to come across.

Hitmonlee

Hitmonlee is very similar to Hitmonchan in that it’s super rare, has no real geographic preference, and is powerful enough to covet.

Marowak

Marowak is the more mature, much more aggressive form of Cubone, both lovable and very dangerous. You can find these little powerhouses in parks, and they’re definitely worth looking for.

Dratini

Dratinis are pretty rare. Searching near bodies of water gives you a good chance, but they’re far from guaranteed. However, those who persevere will be well on their way to becoming a Dragonite army.

onyx

Onyx is a massive rock snake, for lack of a better description, and that alone should put it on your bucket list. It can be found almost anywhere except near bodies of water, although they tend to be one of the more difficult Pokemon to catch, tending to repeatedly break out of Poke Balls.

Mr Mime

Mr. Mime is rare – really rare. You can adventure for hours and not find one, but he’s very powerful with his psychic abilities, so you might want to seek him out in nearby parks and other standard areas.

Aerodactyl

Aerodactyl is a rare Rock/Flying Pokémon. They tend to be fast, moving around the screen and making it difficult for some to pin them down with a Pokeball. However, they’re definitely worth the effort and can help round out a team, especially if you’ve stuck to the more generic offerings.

duck

While Golduck can also be caught in Pokemon GO, Psyduck is by far the cooler of the two. You can still evolve into Golduck if you wish, although this requires catching more than one Psyduck.

Kangashan

Kangaskhan is a big regular dude, which means it can hold its own against almost every other dude out there. His high defense and immense power make him a force to be reckoned with. Like most normal types, you can encounter this rare Pokemon almost anywhere in the game.

arcanine

Arcanines are fire-types, meaning they can be found almost anywhere, even rarely near water. While they seem to prefer parks, they are still very rare. These beautiful dogs and their powerful flame abilities are something you will want to add to your collection.

searching

Golden may be useless, but its much more powerful and rarer evolved form is a beast.

haunted

Ghosts are no doubt useful against normal types, of which there is an abundance in Pokemon GO. Ghosts can be found near parks and cemeteries at night (no kidding), but you can sometimes even encounter them randomly during the day and far from these places.

Electbuzz

With the abundance of Pidgeys in all their forms, Electric types are a must-have right now. Electabuzz is a rare one often encountered on a decent CP.

Magmar

Fire is rare, but if you want to try, you might as well get something powerful. Magmar’s are the perfect blend of power and flame.

Evolutionary

Finding these in the wild in Pokemon GO is very, very, very rare, but it does happen. Normally you’d have to catch tons of Eevees and just hope you get the evolution you want, but there’s a chance you’ll encounter one of these forms out in the world. They’re fast and require some skill with a Pokeball (and some Razz Berries too) as they usually spawn with high CP.

Magikarp

Okay, so magikarps are useless, but how else are you going to get a gyrados? You’ll also need 400 Magikarp Candy to evolve, so it’s time to make room for all those fish you’re about to catch.

vileplume

Vileplume is Oddish all grown up and an absolute force to be reckoned with when it comes to powerful weed attacks. Able to take on even some of the strongest Pokémon, you won’t want to pass up this smiling flower.

golduck

Golduck is what you get when Psyduck stops being confused and uses all that power. It’s rare to see one. So if you come across a golduck in Pokemon GO, consider yourself lucky and catch it by any means necessary.

granny star

Omastar is a bit of an odd Pokemon, but you should definitely get your hands on this rock/water type.

Taugong

Not only is Dewgong adorable, but this Water/Ice-type Pokémon turns out to be no problem in battle either. You’ll need to stay near water to attend any of these, but it’s definitely worth spending the time on the beach.

Chansey

Chansey is as rare in Pokemon GO as one would expect, making it a highly desirable little monster. However, it tends to have quite a bit of HP, as well as some pretty decent CP, so keep your eyes peeled.
