The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced on Sunday that KL Rahul has been ruled out of next month’s Test World Cup final against Australia at The Oval after sustaining an injury during the ongoing IPL 2023 . The selectors named Ishan Kishan as Rahul’s replacement for the grand finals. However, BCCI has yet to take a call regarding the injuries to Jaydev Unadkat and Umesh Yadav.

On May 1, during the IPL 2023 match between Lucknow Super Giants and Royal Challengers Bangalore at Ekana Stadium, Rahul suffered a right thigh injury while pitching, which resulted in him being ruled out for the remainder of the tournament. “After consultations with specialists, it was decided that Rahul would have surgery at the earliest, followed by rehab at the National Cricket Academy. He is ruled out of the upcoming ICC World Test Championship (WTC) final against Australia,” read the BCCI statement.

Three days before BCCI’s official announcement, Rahul had already confirmed he would not make it to the WTC Finals in London, as a disemboweled LSG skipper made a lengthy Instagram post a few days after his injury. He had mentioned: “Absolutely disappointed not to be at the Oval with Team India next month. I will do anything to turn blue again and help my country. That has always been my focus and priority. @indiancrickeam .”

BCCI also provided an important update on Jaydev Unadkat and Umesh Yadav’s injuries. During the net session, the LSG high-speed bowler suffered a serious injury to his bowling shoulder, which he sustained by stumbling over the side rope while bowling. He has now been sent to the National Cricket Academy (NCA), with BCCI closely monitoring his improvement before taking a call to announce his replacement.

“Specialist advice has been obtained and the left-arm fast bowler is currently at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru undergoing strength and rehabilitation sessions for his shoulder. A decision on his participation in the WTC Finals will be made at a later date.” added the BCCI statement.

Umesh, on the other hand, sustained a minor injury to his left thigh muscle during Kolkata Knight Riders’ game against Royal Challengers Bangalore on April 26 as part of his rehab process. The BCCI Medical Team is in regular contact with the KKR Medical Team and is closely monitoring Umesh’s progress,” the update said.

The selectors, meanwhile, have also named three stand-by players for the WTC Finals – Ruturaj Gaikwad, Mukesh Kumar, Suryakumar Yadav.

India’s Squad for WTC Finals: Rohit Sharma (Captain), Shubman Gill, Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli, Ajinkya Rahane, KS Bharat (wk), Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Shardul Thakur, Mohd. Shami, Mohd. Siraj, Umesh Yadav, Jaydev Unadkat, Ishan Kishan (wk).
