Baxter County man charged with home burglary

A Baxter County man, identified as 32-year-old Justin Kelley, has been charged with home burglary and theft of property stemming from a burglary reported in August 2022.

According to the probable cause affidavit, the Baxter County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a burglary at an apartment building along Cranfield Road.

When officers arrived, the victim said they had been vacating the property for about a week when they returned to find the front door had been blocked by a chair from the inside. Inside the apartment, it was discovered that a television had been moved to another room, and a pair of red and black sneakers that did not belong to the victim were found under the kitchen table. The victim also stated that several items of clothing and numerous tools were missing.

Outside the residence, a red holdall and purple suitcase were found in the grass near the swimming pool, where a woman’s bathing suit was found draped over the fence along with a towel and still wet. The victim identified the suitcase as her own, but it contained someone else’s property.

During the investigation, officers interviewed neighbors in the area who said they had seen a man and woman by the pool on multiple occasions over the past week. Other witnesses said they saw the couple drag a rolling cooler down the street. Inside the home, officers found empty soda cans in which they were able to obtain a positive fingerprint identification that matched Kelley’s.

Kelley is currently being held at the Baxter County Detention Center on $19,000 bail.
