Back at Red Rocks Amphitheater with Dune, Sandlot and more

The 2022 Film on the Rocks series will feature a slightly shorter-than-average cast, even as it returns to its rightful place at Red Rocks Amphitheater, organizers announced today.
Presented by Denver Film and amphitheater owner Denver Arts & Venues, the 23rd edition will feature a total of five films, with live performance details to be announced later. All performances will be held at Red Rocks for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic began in March 2020, scrapping the drive-in model of the past two years.
The condensed 2022 schedule begins and ends with high-profile sci-fi notes beginning June 13 with Marvel Cinematic Universe blockbuster Thor: Ragnarok and ending August 15 with director’s Oscar-winning epic Dune Denis Villeneuve. (See the full listing below.) Tickets are $16 for general admission and $32 for VIP seating. They will be available on denverfilm.org beginning Friday, May 20th at 10am PDT.
“We are incredibly grateful to our viewers, who have fully embraced the drive-through concept for Film on the Rocks over the past two seasons,” said Kevin Smith, CEO of Denver Film, in a press statement. “However, there is nothing quite like the amphitheater experience that Red Rocks offers….”
Pre-pandemic versions of Film on the Rocks typically offered at least a few more titles than 2022. However, the COVID-enforced adjustments of 2020 and 2021 allowed Denver Film to increase its average by showing up to four screenings a month in the world-famous Venues hosted parking lot and even with Christmas movies as of last year.
But wouldn’t you rather watch a movie entirely in the amphitheater (the answer is yes) than in the parking lot? (Still yes.) Us too.
Gates for each show open at 6:30 p.m., musical guests take the stage at 7 p.m., followed by the film at 8:30 p.m., organizers said. The cast will be announced in the coming weeks.
