The Marvel Cinematic Universe is a colossal force in entertainment, and nowhere has that been more evident than in the record-breaking success of Avengers: Infinity War and endgame. These massive ensemble projects were spearheaded by The Russo Brothers, who have since strayed from the shared universe for some time. And now Joe Russo has revealed his favorite Marvel movie from Phase Four (so far).
Phase Four of the MCU was a spree, with wild projects expanding the franchise on both the small and big screens. The studio has focused on the concept of the multiverse, and it should be fascinating to see how this affects the entire shared universe. Joe Russo was recently asked by the geek on the current list of Marvel projects and reveals which new film is his favorite. As he put it
I found No Way Home incredible. It was fantastic. I thought it was absolutely perfect. It was one of the best times I’ve had at the cinema in a long time and it was nice not to be involved. As a film freak, I could just sit in a cinema and let myself be surprised and laugh and cry with everyone else in the cinema.
Fixed points were made. Spider-Man: No Way Home was a huge movie event with throngs of moviegoers rushing to the cinemas to see Tom Holland’s third solo film. But he was far from the only star on the big screen as the massive crossover united him with former Peter Parker actors Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield. The film also featured an ensemble cast of villains from those franchises, including Jamie Foxx, Alfred Molina, and Willem Dafoe.
Having architected the conclusion of Phase Three, it seems the Russo Brothers really enjoyed the opportunity to step back and experience new MCU films as viewers. And Joe Russo in particular really enjoyed watching the wild multiversal crossover events of Spider-Man: No Way Home. Honestly, same.
In many ways Spider-Man: No Way Home feels like a spiritual successor Avengers: Endgame, especially considering the sheer size of the blockbuster. The cast was huge, including the surprise return of Charlie Cox’s Daredevil. And how endgame and Infinite Warthe comic action was so exciting that the audience erupted in applause during the opening weekend screenings. So maybe we should have seen the Russo Brothers’ reaction coming.
Since the release of Avengers: EndgameMarvel fans were curious if/when the Russos could return to the MCU. They’ve seemingly done the impossible with their massive Marvel blockbusters, starting with Captain America: Civil War. This movie proved they could balance a massive cast with her couple avenger movies. And her MCU debut Captain America: The Winter Soldierr is considered one of the best MCU films of all time. So it’s safe to say their potential return would be celebrated by the public.
The next part of the shared universe is Thor: Love and Thunder on July 8th. In the meantime, check out these Theatrical release dates 2022 to plan your next movie experience.
