Aquaman and the lost kingdom, a cataclysm awaiting us?

After being delayed more than once, the second chapter of the Aquaman saga appears to have found its official release date. Given the grossing record of the first film, DC Comics has announced the sequel, Aquaman and the Lost Empire, which is now slated for a Christmas 2023 release in US cinemas. Just like the first title, the film is produced and directed by James Wan and, of course, stars Jason Momoa. But audience reactions to test screenings over the last few months have not been the best and the film seems to be taking a big gamble indeed.

The audience chosen for the film’s first tests in theaters did not respond well to the screenings at all, going so far as to define it Aquaman and the Lost Empire Worst DC movie of all time. Film critic Jeff Sneider is not surprised by these statements and recalls that even the first film was of poor quality. Perhaps the Momoa sequel is taking a big risk and has to work its way through more than one negative rumor alongside these final advance snippets.
The film was supposed to be released in December 2022, only to be pushed back to March 2023 and finally December 2023. In addition, there are many reasons to believe this Jason Momoa is ready to wear the shoes of other DC characters. Speculations suggest that one of them could be the bounty hunter rag be played by the current King of Atlantis. Nothing is confirmed yet, but if this sequel doesn’t do well, Momoa could step down as the Water Lord. Finally, the yet-to-be-released film must find its way amid controversy over the presence of Amber Heard, fresh out of the Johnny Depp trial, and criticism of the first title’s dialogue and script.
What do we know about the film?

We don’t have a specific plot yet, but the synopsis for the film has been officially released: “When an ancient power is unleashed, Aquaman must forge an uneasy alliance with an unsafe ally to save Atlantis and the world from utter devastation.It’s unknown who this “uncomfortable ally” is, but the film will almost certainly pick up where it left off as Aquaman is crowned the rightful King of Atlantis after defeating Orm. The information about the plot of the film did not end here. The director and some crew members have stated that the film will not be an adaptation of any particular comic, but is inspiredlike themes and settings, from the Silver Age of the DC. He will be a little more serious and explore new worlds.
Of course, alongside Jason Momoa as the protagonist, the sequel will also star Amber Heard as Mera and Patrick Wilson, who will once again play Orm. Also, we will see the return of Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Willem Dafoeas Black Manta or Nuidius Vulko. Finally, Aquaman and the Lost Empire will reprise the roles of Temuera Morrison, Nicole Kidman and Dolph Lundgren, and will add new characters played by Indya Moore and Pilou Asbæk. Another rumor has thousands of fans believing Ben Affleck could be starring as Batman.
