Respawn Entertainment stood by its developers after employees were harassed Apex Legends players in recent months.
The company posted a message regarding this on its official Twitter account. It begins by saying, “Recently, we’ve seen an increase in harassment towards members of our development team,” noting that while the company welcomes contributions from the community, the line between constructive feedback and harassment “must not be crossed.” That Apex Legends The developer then reminds players that Respawn has a “zero tolerance policy for threats” and harassment towards its team and has begun to “take reasonable steps to ensure the health and safety of its team”.
The statement concludes, “We love hearing feedback and will continue to work with our community to foster a respectful, collaborative environment and to maintain the integrity of our game.” While no specific community was mentioned in the statement, most recognized , that the message probably indicated Apex Legends Players who have expressed frustration with various facets of the game over the past few months. In some cases, these players went from criticism to open harassment towards developers at respawn. Apex Legends Players recorded the responses to express their disappointment in their community members, with the majority agreeing with the statement. A small minority claimed the harassment was solely due to a lack of response from Respawn and defended their actions to developers.
Bungie, best known for developing the gloriole and determination game series’, showed their solidarity in a response that reads, “To take a stand against toxicity and harassment, we must all work together to build healthier communities. We support you in this effort @respawn.” The developer had previously encountered a similar harassment-related issue in July 2022, resulting in Bungie limiting its online interactions. The harassment and threats against the company went so far that the Community Manager for destiny 2Dylan Gafner, sued a streamer who organized a widespread hate campaign against him.
Jason West and Vince Zampella, the co-founders Infinity Ward and created the call of Duty Franchise, founded Respawn Entertainment in April 2010. Also Apex Legendsit is also known for that titanium fall series, with the first game being released in 2014 for Windows and both Xbox 360 and Xbox One. Respawn also developed the massive hit Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Orderwhich came out in 2019. A continuation, Star Wars Jedi: Survivorexpected to arrive sometime in 2023.
