CHINA GROVE — Antique collectors will soon have a new place to hunt for treasure.
Vintage Grove at 303 N. Main Street in China Grove will open on August 25th.
Jody and Tracy Gladstone bought the old Grove Theater to run their business, that have come to life over the past two years. After the theater closed in 1955, it was an ice rink for a time before closing again. Customers can expect to be greeted by a historic feel upon entering the store, which still has a wooden floor that served as an ice skating floor.
Tracy Gladstone has been collecting antiques for five years and follows the quest for treasure started by her grandmother.
“I honestly wish I’d paid more attention to him when I was younger,” she said. “But now I have so much stock and my stands. I love sharing their stories.”
Her husband agreed. When selling antiques, both love to share the story behind each piece with customers.
Tracy began selling antiques a year and a half ago, initially with stalls at Lake Norman Antique Mall before moving to Main Street Antiques at the Mill. She still has a stand there, No. D26.
She had the opportunity to open her first store after Jody Mattress by Appointment opened at the back of the building. He used to transport Were before you contracted COVID-19. Due to long-term health effects, he had to give up this job and decided to open his mattress business, which started operations earlier this month.
“It kind of worked out perfectly,” he said. “I was already here, so she just moved forward.”
Tracy restores antiques that she and her husband pick up. They source many items from Goodwill, thrift stores, estate sales, and auctions. Sometimes, if they’re lucky, they find pieces on the side of the road after someone decides to throw them away. After some renovation work, the items are ready to be put in the store.
She also evaluates everything by researching the prices and comparing them to the item’s brand or what’s comparable to the era it’s from.
Vintage Grove held a soft opening on Farmers Day where people could tour the store. Vintage Grove’s Facebook page was getting 200 followers a day, so Jody called it a success.
The store is open Thursday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 6 or 7 p.m., although closing times are not final.
You will watch the traffic Load and then make the final decision.
