Love is in the air… again. Paris outstanding, feel-good filmmaker Nancy Meyers’ new rom-com has been canceled on Netflix, but Deadline says Warner Bros. Discovery is in talks to salvage it. The film was scrapped because of its steep $130 million asking price, most of which goes to the star-studded cast of Scarlett Johansson, Penelope Cruz, Owen Wilson and Michael Fassbender.
News that Netflix had canceled Paris outstanding collapsed on Tuesday, and Meyers wasted no time shopping the project elsewhere. Warner Bros. Discovery was a direct lead in landing the film, and discussions are reportedly afoot about the future of the project. While the studio irons out the details, the film’s sizeable budget will certainly be a point of contention.
Warner Bros. Discovery may not follow Meyers’ $130 million plan, and the quickest way to cut costs would be to slash stars. Scarlett Johansson, Owen Wilson, and Michael Fassbender have all been Marvel stars at some point in their careers, and Penelope Cruz is a screen legend.
