Amber Heard has claimed her role in The Upcoming Aquaman The sequel was “slimmed” after one of Johnny Depp’s attorneys called the actress’ abuse allegations a “hoax” in an April 2020 statement The Daily Mail. When Heard’s testimony ended on May 16, she also said she lost a job for a beauty brand and was booted out of ad campaigns for other films, according to Depp attorney Adam Waldman’s testimony, which had appeared in several news articles. Waldman was referring to an incident allegedly occurring on May 21, 2016, in which Heard claims Depp threw a cellphone in her face. The lawyer said, “Quite simply, it was an ambush, a scam. They tricked Mr Depp by calling the police, but the first attempt didn’t work.”
Heard argued that her career took a hit after she split from Depp and obtained a restraining order against him in May 2016 “desiring to support him,” she said of her former husband. A few years later, however, her career began to rebound with roles in DC Universe films and as Nadine Cross in the adaptation of Stephen King’s film the booth “It took a lot of hard work on my part,” she continued. “I’ve been waiting for a schedule from Warner Bros. for aquaman 2the continuation.”
“So they actively planned the timing of filming and scripts for aquaman 2 before these articles?” asked Heard’s attorney Elaine Bredehoft. “Yes, I was,” Heard replied.
After the articles came out, Heard claimed, “That’s where the communication stopped [point].” Bredehoft referred Heard to the contract she signed in September 2015 regarding her character Mera justice league. According to the agreement, this character could appear in Justice League, Aquaman, or “any other film in the DC Universe”. Heard said her role in aquaman 2 was in danger according to Waldman’s statements.
“I fought really hard to stay in the movie,” Heard said. “They didn’t want to put me in the film.” While she was able to maintain her place, it’s “a very stripped down version of that role,” Heard added, explaining that she was given “new versions of the script that had scenes removed, containing the action”. Heard avoided spoilers, but one of the scenes featured “two characters fighting each other, and they basically took a bunch out of my role.” (Vulture has reached out to Warner Bros. for comment.) Heard’s claims about reputational and professional damage came on the third day of her testimony in Depp’s defamation trial against her.
