Alabama Men’s Swimming and Diving completes NCAA championships

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The Alabama men’s swim and dive team earned All-America honors on the final night of the 2023 NCAA championships.

the efforts behind it Victor Johansson, Derek Maas and the Crimson Tide’s 400-strong freestyle relay team helped secure a 19th-Place team finish. It is the ninth straight season that the Crimson Tide has achieved a national top 20 finish.

Alabama had seven swimmers who earned second-team All-America honors Saturday night. Johansson recorded a 15th-Ranked in the 1,650 freestyle to open the night while Maas set a career-best 200 breaststroke to hit a 10th– Finish place. The quota of Charlie HawkeKaique Alve, Tim Korstanje And Matt Menke finished the meet for the Crimson Tide with a season-best performance in the 400 freestyle relay as the team finished 12thth.

The quota of Charlie Hawke, Kaique Alves, Tim Korstanje And Matt Menke closed out the meet for Alabama with a season-high 400 freestyle relay when they placed 12thth to also receive the second-team All-America honors.

“We had a strong night at the end of the meeting. We are all very proud of these guys and what they have achieved both in and out of the pool. The effect of our seniors (Cam Auerbach, Victor Johansson, Derek Maas And Matt Menke) on the program was wonderful. For the younger ones, this meeting was a great learning experience. We will continue to work hard to move the program forward.”

Crimson Tide Highlights

  • Charlie Hawke, Kaique Alves, Tim Korstanje And Matt Menke closed the meet with a season best of 2:49.41 in the 400 freestyle relay and placed 12thth to earn second-team All-America honors
  • Victor Johansson clocked a 14:48.42 in the 1,650 freestyle and earned a 15 for his second All-America honorsth– Finish place
  • Maas was named Team All-America second in the 200 meter breaststroke and placed 10thth with a career best time of 1:51.53
