Alabama Football 2023 Spotlight: Dylan Lonergan

Alabama Football enlisted much of its 2023 recruiting class in January.
Each of Crimson Tide’s early enrollments will participate in Crimson Tide’s full off-season program. Touchdown Alabama will feature each of the newcomers to Alabama in a series of articles over the next few weeks.

We continue our streak with former four-star quarterback and Georgia product Dylan Lonergan.
Dylan Lonergan
-Classification: student in the first year
–position: Quarterbacks
-Hometown: Snellville, Georgia
-Height: 6 feet2
-Weight: 215 Pound
–Summary: Lonergan was the second quarterback drafted to the Alabama Football draft league in 2023.
The freshman is a four-star former recruit at Brookwood High School in Snellville, Georgia. He had more than 25 D1 offers and he chose the Crimson Tide over Stanford, South Carolina and others.
Lonergan turned in big numbers throughout his time at Brookwood. He finished his career with 8,368 passing yards, 1,349 rushing yards, 74 passing touchdowns and 26 rushing touchdowns.

The former four-star recruit possesses a large and strong arm which he flaunts on the field and gridiron. He is expected to have opportunities to play football and baseball during his time in Tuscaloosa as he is currently listed on both teams’ rosters. He’s a right-handed pitcher who can throw a fastball at 90 mph on the diamond.
Lonergan’s arm strength and accuracy throwing the football in tight windows are noticeable when watching his film, but his ability to get meters with his feet is somewhat underestimated. He doesn’t possess elite speed, but he’s a tough runner who runs with good vision and a desire to fight for extra yards, which is something he may need to scale back to avoid collegiate-level hits.
Alabama Football’s first quarterback job is up for grabs. Most of the early talks about the upcoming battle for position involved Ty Simpson and Jalen Milroe. Not much has been said about Lonergan and Eli Holstein, the signal callers of Alabama’s freshmen.
Lonergan is recovering from a foot injury and his status for this spring is unknown.
