A pet monkey in Oklahoma tore a woman’s ear in half, pulled out her hair and “punched a man in the face” before the furry attacker was shot dead, according to police and one victim.
The wild incident took place in the town of Dickson over the weekend after the pet monkey – allegedly Jack – fled a home in the area.
Victim Brittany Parker, who was taken to hospital and left with more than 187 stitches over the gory ordeal, said she first saw the monkey on her porch on Sunday.
“He fell off one side of my porch and hit the glass trying to get in,” Parker told Inside Edition.
The woman called 911 around 6 p.m., and responding Dickson Police Department officers found the monkey on the porch. Officials then called the Oklahoma Wildlife Department for help.
As officers got out of their squad car, the monkey jumped onto the back of the vehicle, the Dickson Police Department said.
Moments later, the monkey jumped on Parker and attacked her, police said.
“It ran up my back and jumped onto my head, ripping out hair and then ripping my ear in half like you’re making a piece of paper,” Parker told KTEN news agency.
The monkey then ran out of sight into a wooded area after the attack, police said. Officials spoke to the animal’s owners, and the owners attempted to capture the primate but were “unsuccessful,” authorities said.
During the incident, Parker said she called a family friend who also faced the monkey’s wrath.
“After I was attacked, the monkey went to his vehicle and punched him in the face and pulled his hair,” Parker told KTEN.
This man ended up shooting the monkey and killing him.
Dickson Police said the animal was sent to the Oklahoma Disease Laboratory for testing and the investigation is ongoing.
“I’m very traumatized. I’m very scared,” Parker told Inside Edition.
Under Oklahoma law, primates are classified as pets, so keeping one as a pet does not require a permit, according to KTEN.
On the same day as the monkey attack, Ohio lawmakers reportedly shot and killed a zebra after it nearly ripped off the arm of a 72-year-old man.
