A care home in Leeds, Grenville and Lanark remains in the COVID-19 outbreak, Ontario Health reported Thursday.

Perth’s 121-bed community care has 16 residents who have tested positive for the virus and six staff members, the agency reported.

The agency said the outbreak at Hilltop Manor in Merrickville, which had been dealing with the virus last week, is over.

Perth Community Care was among 159 long-term care homes in Ontario on Thursday that affected 1,224 residents and 580 staff, the provincial agency reported.

The Leeds, Grenville and Lanark District Health Unit reported this week that three community care facilities, a category that includes nursing homes and long-term care, were in the outbreak. It said 67 people were affected by the virus.

The Department of Education does not count COVID cases in elementary and high schools, but publishes absenteeism. It says absenteeism of more than 30 percent is a concern, though students could be absent from anything, not just because of COVID.

A school in the health department has an absenteeism rate above the threshold. St. James Catholic Education Center in Smiths Falls, a high school, had 33.3 percent of students absenteeism Wednesday, Ontario Health reported.

No other schools in Leeds, Grenville and Lanark had absenteeism anywhere near that mark.

The local health unit reported 23 new known COVID cases Thursday, among Ontario’s 1,565 new cases.

Hospitalizations in the province, which have been ebbs and flows throughout the week, were down again on Thursday. Ontario hospitals had 1,207 COVID patients, down 41 from Wednesday. There were 168 patients in intensive care units, five more.

A total of 71 patients were ventilated.

The local health unit did not report hospital numbers Thursday, but rates were down or stable at neighboring health units.

The Eastern Ontario Health Department reported six residents in hospitals, one of whom required intensive care.

In Ottawa, hospitals recorded nine local COVID-19 patients, but none required critical care. Ottawa Public Health said its hospitals were also treating 60 patients from out of town. Seven of them required intensive care.

Kingston, Frontenac, Lennox and Addington Public Health had 12 COVID patients, three of them in intensive care and one on a ventilator.
