Finding your next binge is a breeze when you consult our roundup of new shows and movies to watch this weekend Netflix, DisneyPlus, peacock and other streaming services.
The lineup is led by the animated reboot Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers. In general, we’re pretty skeptical about any reboot/revival/rebootquel, but this one looks good. The fact that Andy Samberg and John Mulaney provide the voices of the main duo may have something to do with this.
Several new series debut this weekend, including the biographical story of Billboard queen Angelyne, boomer sci-fi mystery Night Sky, flashback-heavy thriller Now and Then and spin-off Love on the Spectrum US.
On the movie side, romantic comedies dominate, with The Valet and Perfect Pairing offering various sweet encounters, obstacles, and happy endings. And for documentary fans, The New York Times Presents series has something new Documentary about Elon Musk about Tesla and the potential dangers of self-driving cars.
Here’s our guide to what to see this weekend.
Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers (Disney Plus)
Too many reboots/revivals are awful, should never have been done and in some cases even cast a shadow over the original. But Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers actually looks good. The film features top comedic talent, was directed by Lonely Island’s Akiva Schaffer, and has a hilarious trailer.
It’s a sequel/sequel set 30 years after the end of the animated series. Estranged, Chip (John Mulaney) and Dale (Andy Samberg) live mediocre lives in a world where humans and cartoon characters mix. Chip works as an insurance salesman, while Dale has undergone a CGI makeover and is reliving his glory days on the convention circuit. When their former castmate mysteriously disappears, they get back together to save their boyfriend – and their own friendship.

Angelyne (Peacock)
Before Kim Kardashian became famous for being famous, Angelyne paved the way. It was essentially a rite of passage for Los Angeles residents to see the ’80s poster pin-up cruising around town in her pink convertible. Emmy Rossum dresses in prosthetics and bright clothing to portray the somewhat mysterious blonde bombshell/urban legend.
The biographical series is based on writers Article by Gary Baum for the Hollywood Reporter. It is framed as a documentary in which Angelyne talks about herself and key figures in her life such as poster printer Harold Wallach (Martin Freeman), fan club manager Rick Krause (Hamish Linklater) and Baum herself (Alex Karpovsky). But even though men seem to hold all the power, Angelyne is smarter and more adept at their identity and image than anyone expects of them.

Night Sky (Prime Video)
Hollywood elders shouldn’t just be adored from afar; They need their own vehicles with main actors. For that reason, Night Sky is a welcome addition to a tableau filled with millennial angst, Gen Z antics, and Gen X existential crises. Alright boomers – let’s go! Oscar winners Sissy Spacek and JK Simmons portray Irene and Frank York, a small town couple in their early years.
Their palpable intimacy is not only the result of decades of marriage, but also a shared secret: a secret chamber in their backyard can teleport them to a deserted alien planet. Then an enigmatic young man named Jude (Chai Hansen) enters her life and turns her life upside down. Irene’s summary of the Count of Monte Cristo fits Night Sky just as well: “It has everything – escape, revenge, deceit.”

Now and then (Apple TV Plus)
This bilingual thriller could just as easily be titled I Know What You Did 20 Summers Ago. Or maybe elite with adults. Or Yellowjackets in English and Spanish. Like all these titles, Now and Then moves back and forth in time (the “now” and the “then”). It follows a group of college friends whose lives are changed forever after seniors weekend ends and one of them is killed in an accident.
For now, the five survivors choose not to call the authorities, choosing to cover up some of the circumstances. You can imagine what happens two decades later – they receive text messages threatening to reveal their secret. The five former friends must reunite to find out who is blackmailing them and why.

Love, Death and Robots Volume 3 (Netflix)
The animated anthology from Tim Miller and David Fincher returns with nine new compelling stories from visionary directors. As usual, the episodes feature different vibes and animation styles. They all combine horror, fantasy and beauty to tell tales that range from the exposure of an ancient evil to a comedic apocalypse.
Fincher himself directed an episode, “Bad Travelling,” about sailors battling a highly intelligent crustacean. In another episode, “Jibaro”, a murderous siren meets the ultimate enemy: a deaf warrior. And “Three Robots: Exit Strategies” is a sequel to a Season 1 episode about robots in a post-apocalyptic world. In the sequel, they investigate the methods of survival used by humans before they were all wiped out.
