What characters in the MCU’s upcoming Disney+ series, Daredevil: Reborncould end up being a recast of the Netflix series?
MCU fans were thrilled to learn that Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio would be returning to play their roles as Daredevil and Kingpin in the MCU as their 2022 Disney+ series was confirmed. But given Daredevil’s small screen history, there are still many mysteries to keep reborn‘s release, particularly on the casting/recasting front.
Recent news confirmed that Marvel Studios has cast Sandrine Holt in the role of Vanessa Fisk for this new series, marking the first official recast for the Disney+ show after Ayulet Zurer played the Kingpin’s wife in Neftlix’s daredevil.
And with questions still lingering over whether the Netflix shows are definitely canon for the MCU, fans are eagerly awaiting more casting news to find out what other roles new actors could play.
Ahead is a look at eight of the key characters from Daredevil and the Greater Defenders saga on Netflix, along with the chances of them being recast Daredevil: Reborn.
Potential actors are being recast for Daredevil: Born Again
1.) Misty Nelson (Elden Henson)

Foggy Nelson played as big a supporting role as anyone else in the Netflix series, with Elden Henson playing Matt Murdock’s best friend and business partner in all three seasons. The two ran a law firm called Nelson & Murdock: Attorneys at Law and strengthened their friendship and partnership while Foggy grappled with Matt’s secret life as a vigilante.
Reports indicated that Elden Henson was not on the call log reborn, meaning he won’t be reprising his role as Foggy from the Netflix show for now. Consider Foggy’s deep connections to Matt in the comics, which was also evident in Jon Favreau’s portrayal in Ben Affleck’s daredevil movies, it would be a shock not to see the character return in some form.
While Henson could certainly find his way into the series later during filming, there’s at least a reasonable chance that that role could be recast Daredevil: Reborn. And while he hasn’t commented on the chances of a return, fans have expressed their disappointment at the news released so far, with hope that “Avocado at Law” is coming back.
2). Karen Page as Deborah Ann Woll

Deborah Ann Woll played Karen Page in the original Netflix series, eventually becoming Matt and Foggy’s office manager, and then writing for the New York Bulletin. She would later aid Frank Castle during his court battle and help Matt and Foggy bring down the Kingpin before agreeing to start a new law practice before the series came to an end.
In advance Daredevil: Reborn‘s endorsement, Woll has been incredibly vocal about being open to returning as Karen Page, often speaking about her experiences with Cox and Hensen on the Netflix show. But, like Henson, she wasn’t on the call list for rebornleading many to believe that she will be recast.
It’s gotten to the point that Woll herself has expressed doubts about her return as she hasn’t heard from Marvel, which raises the odds of a recast just as much as it does for Henson. While that would certainly be disappointing for Woll and a sect of the fandom, it would be a surprise not to see Karen throughout the series, although it remains to be seen who will play her.
3.) Claire Temple (Rosario Dawson)

No one connected Marvel TV’s Netflix shows more than Rosario Dawson’s Claire Temple, who primarily served as Matt Murdock’s nurse and friend daredevil. She also has the special honor of being the most appeared character in the Defenders saga, appearing in every single series except The Punisher.
Dawson expressed hope to reprise her role as Claire in Daredevil: Reborn, and says Disney and Marvel know where to find her if they want to bring the character back. Unfortunately, she wasn’t on the call for the first round of casting for the new Disney+ series, leaving doubts about her coming back.
Claire would apparently be an important part of the Daredevil storyline that could even be worked into other parts of the MCU. This could mean that she will be recast as the anti-hero by Cox for the next round. And with Dawson now busier than ever with her role as Ahsoka Tano in the larger Star Wars saga, only time will tell if she will have the time to reunite with Marvel.
4.) Elektra (Elodie Yung)

Introduced in Season 2 as the antagonist/complicated love interest for Matt Murdock, Elodie Yung’s Elektra brings with her one of the most iconic Daredevil supporting characters from the comics. Originally working with The Hand to bring down Matt Murdock, the two eventually formed a relationship to overcome Stick and Alexandra Reid, although Elektra both died in the end daredevil Season 2 and in episode 8 of the defenders – The latter permanently.
Elektra was a complicated character in terms of her possible inclusion in reborn, especially without a word from Yung about whether she would return. Eiza Gonzalez’s role in the new series has also been rumored, although she strongly denies it due to her own schedule.
Since Electra was only a part of two seasons of the overall Defenders saga, Marvel Studios could decide to walk away from Yung’s version of the character and Elektra could not come into play in Season 1 at all. But when she comes into play, Marvel will surely be looking for the right actress to embrace this important supporting character.
5.) Benjamin “Dex” Poindexter/Bullseye (Wilson Bethel)

After being played by Colin Farrell in 2003 daredevil, Wilson Bethel took on the memorable Matt Murdock antagonist Bullseye for Season 3 of the Netflix series. A former FBI agent with a deeply troubled past, he was eventually manipulated by Wilson Fisk into pursuing Daredevil, even going so far as to wear the Daredevil suit before Matt Murdock brought him and the Kingpin down.
Considering how many times Bullsye has been used in Daredevil stories on the big and small screen, this antagonist should be on Marvel Studios’ potential list of characters to bring back, especially since he was used in the reborn story from the comics.
As far as casting goes, while Wilson Bethel has done a solid job, he’s only had less than a dozen episodes under his belt as this memorable antagonist. Marvel might be looking for a bigger name to play the role in the MCU, especially given the possibility that he might invade other parts of the universe in this story.
6.) Brett Mahoney (Royce Johnson)

Royce Johnson’s Brett Mahoney starred in all three seasons of daredevileven appeared in episodes of jessica jones And The Punisher as well as. Mahoney was a detective sergeant with the NYPD who formed a tenuous alliance with Daredevil, also working with Matt Murdock and Foggy Nelson during their time as attorneys, eventually helping them bring down Kingpin and investigate The Hand.
While Mahoney isn’t typically Daredevil’s biggest supporting character, there’s a chance the police detective will be brought back Daredevil: Reborn. And thanks to some interesting social media activity from Johnson, there’s even a chance he’ll be back to reprise the role himself.
In January 2023, Johnson posted a photo of himself in his daredevil Costume with the inscription “…somewhere in New York”, possibly teasing that he might eventually return to the MCU. And while he’s remained relatively quiet about the post since then, it’s certainly sparking conversations among fans as to whether Brett Mahoney will be back in the years to come.
7.) Luke Cage (Mike Colter)

Mike Colter’s Luke Cage became a major part of the Defenders saga, starring in and appearing in two seasons of his own solo series jessica jones, iron fistAnd the defenders. He formed some connections with Daredevil through their experiences together the defendersand helps the group stop Alexandra Reid before Matt’s supposed death.
With Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio already returning as their respective characters, many fans are hoping Colter will return to his iconic role as the heroic defender of Harlem. And while Colter admitted he definitely doesn’t have a Marvel comeback on his wish list, some intriguing photos have sparked renewed interest in the subject.
Colter has been spotted in public on numerous occasions jessica jones Star Krysten Ritter, who is rumored to be making her own MCU comeback alongside Colter. And while the two have publicly stated that these meetings only happened as friends, there’s no way to definitively say if they’re hiding a possible collaboration with Marvel Studios.
8.) Danny Rand (Finn Jones)

As the fourth member of the Defenders, Finn Jones’ Danny Rand played a major role in the series as he became the Immortal Iron Fist in his own solo series. Also included the defenders and Season 2 of Luke Cage, Danny Rand learned the ways of K’un-Lun and mastered the use of the Iron Fist weapon, eventually aiding Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and Luke Cage in their battles.
Of the Defenders quartet, Finn Jones always seemed the least likely member to return to his role, especially given the overwhelmingly negative reception of his own solo series. Rumors even suggested that Jones himself didn’t want to come back, although he passionately dispelled them by saying he loves having something “the ability to prove someone wrong.”
For now, there don’t appear to be any definitive plans to bring Iron Fist into the MCU, although theories have been teased of how he could potentially take part in a project like the story Shan Chi 2. Hopefully Jones has an opportunity to bounce back from those past disappointments, although there’s a chance Marvel could take a new direction with Iron Fist as well.
Daredevil: Reborn is currently filming and is scheduled for release on Disney+ in Spring 2024.
