fruit beer festival

On Saturday 13th August the Fruit Beer Fest comes to Swangard Stadium with tons of different craft brewers and others serving beers, ciders and wines made from locally grown fruit. There are already over 30 breweries that will be taking part in the Fruit Beer Fest including local favorites such as 33 Acres Brewing, Container Brewing, Field House Brewing, Another Beer Co., House of Funk Brewing, Superflux and Studio Brewing including Hill Farmstead Brewery in Vermont. Seattle’s MIRAGE and Fair Isle Brewing and New York’s Equilibrium Brewery. There will also be food and live music at the event! Tickets start at $69.99 and can be purchased online.

Summer Cinemas returns for the entire month of August! You can enjoy a free family-friendly outdoor film in Burnaby every Friday from 8:30pm in Civic Square. The film schedule is as follows:

  • August 12 – Clifford the Big Red Dog
  • August 19 – Paddington 2
  • August 26 – Movie Shaun the Sheep
  • 2 Sep – Ron went wrong

The Lego Movie will also be played at Edmonds Park on August 20th.

Burnaby Neighborhood House Summer Street Party

Burnaby Neighborhood House is hosting a free community event on Thursday, August 11th. Part of Beresford St. (just outside Burnaby Neighborhood House South House offices) will be closed and everyone is welcome. There will be a community barbecue, games, hand painting, crafts, interactive booths hosted by community partners and local businesses, music, entertainment and exhibits. Community purge spectacle

A Community Cleanup Extravaganza will be held in the Royal Oak area on August 13th. At the end of the event there will be food, drinks and prizes. Burnaby blood drive event

Make an appointment to donate blood this Sunday, August 7, from 9:30 am to 4:15 pm at Aubrey Elementary. Currently all blood donations are by appointment only and you can register on the Canadian Blood Services website. Not only will you be doing something great for the community, you’ll also be able to enjoy cookies and juice.
